At Momentum Academy, our Social Skills Program is thoughtfully designed to support children at every developmental stage. We focus on meeting each child where they are, giving them the tools they need to communicate more effectively, build friendships, and understand social expectations in a supportive, engaging environment.
By integrating the well-known social thinking concepts developed by Michelle Garcia Winner, our program helps children strengthen their social awareness, empathy, and emotional understanding. These skills empower them to navigate real-life interactions with greater confidence, helping them feel more connected, capable, and prepared for the world around them.
Tailored strategies to meet the unique needs of each participant.
Experienced professionals trained in the latest social thinking methodologies.
A mix of theoretical learning and practical application through role-playing, group activities, and real-world practice.
A safe and nurturing space that encourages growth, experimentation, and self-expression.
Our early start groups focus on the foundational elements of social interaction through engaging, play-based activities. At this developmental stage, children are introduced to key social thinking concepts such as "Thinking Thoughts" and "Feeling Feelings," helping them recognize that they have thoughts and feelings that may be different from others. Skills worked on include sharing, turn-taking, understanding emotions, and initiating interactions, laying the groundwork for meaningful social connections.
As children enter middle school, the focus shifts to friend-based socialization. This stage emphasizes the development of perspective-taking skills and understanding the "Group Plan," which teaches them to collaborate and function as part of a group. We explore concepts like "The Four Steps of Communication," fostering effective communication skills, conflict resolution, and the ability to make and maintain friendships.
Teenage years are marked by a search for identity and belonging. Our program addresses these needs by centering on common interests, friendships, and the nuances of dating. Utilizing concepts such as "The Social Fake" versus "Being Genuine," we guide teens in understanding the balance between social conformity and authenticity. Skills such as empathy, navigating social nuances, understanding complex social cues, and developing deeper relationships are emphasized.
As individuals transition to adulthood, our focus broadens to include socialization in professional settings. We introduce "The Social Thinking-Social Competency Model," preparing them for the workplace through understanding expectations, teamwork, and the importance of flexibility in thinking. Key skills such as networking, professional communication, interview preparation, and workplace etiquette are developed to ensure a smooth transition into the professional world.
